Dear World,
My name is Earl.
Sort of. My full name is Nathaniel Earl Chung. I was born and raised in a suburban town not too far from New York City as part of an awesome family of four. Growing up, my parents and sister frequently called me “knucklehead,” their kindhearted nickname for the son and younger brother constantly running around trying to participate in every activity imaginable, losing everything in every place along the way. From this process though, I realized that the creative, active, and social experiences I was involving myself in each made me feel some unique yet similar way, and that the pursuit of participating in all imaginable made me feel alive, all the time.
A lot has changed since I was ten, but that part of me has stayed the same: still running around, aiming to experience everything, losing stuff everywhere I go.
Now I’m 23-years-old, and I just began my full-time career as a management consultant with PwC in Boston. Alongside the job I actively engage with my passions for songwriting; performing; and recording original music, exploring the outdoors, and connecting with the community. I still feel that I gain energy from this process of keeping up with and elevating these passions simultaneously. Ten or 23, I find it a blessing that I have so much trouble sitting still. This summer the 10 in me reminded the 23 in me how much I enjoyed doing creative projects, so I figured it was time to launch a new one.
Enter Earl on Earth.
The entire idea for this platform came to me throughout the few days I was walking around the beautiful city of Berlin. Another ridiculous thought not worth pursuing, I figured. But I’ve always been too good at shying away from ideas I have; it already feels good that I’ve decided to pursue this one. So, here we go:
A platform that, in its visual form, revolves around writing and reflection.
Balance is key.
…
After my two friends and I checked into a hostel the other day, a middle aged man somewhat jokingly wished us luck making this world a better place. In all honesty, aside from trying to be a good person day in and day out, this platform is my attempt to make a real, positive impact on the world.
I hope that by sharing my passions I can connect with as many people as possible and maybe inspire a few, through photograph or lyric, song or conversation. I’m excited to collaborate with artists, explorers, organizations, and people to create meaningful and unforgettable experiences, and to work towards change where and when it’s necessary. As always, I look forward to learning from this world and from you, and enjoying the journey along the way.
